Billie Eilish Responds To Dave Grohl Comparing Her To Nirvana

Last month, Dave Grohl compared Billie Eilish to Nirvana—not so much on the way they sound, but more because of the way they connect with their audiences.

Now, the young alt-pop star finally has a chance to respond to the gracious comments.

“I can’t even believe that,” Eilish said in a new interview. “Are you kidding? He said rock isn’t dead because of me. Dude, I grew up on that s***. Huh? Rock? Like, I can’t.”

“Dave is such a sweetheart and his daughters, I love them,” she continued. “And he’s so good, of course they’re good, because he’s, f***ing, their dad.”

The 17-year-old went on to explain how she grew up listening to rock music, and that phase never really went away. “I feel like you hit your rock phase and then it doesn’t really go away,” she explained.“I’m still listening to My Chem, Green Day, Nirvana and Foo Fighters.”

“My daughters are obsessed with Billie Eilish,” the FF frontman and former Nirvana drummer originally said. “And what I’m seeing happening with my daughters is the same thing that happened to me at their age. My daughters are listening to Billie Eilish and they’re becoming themselves through her music. She totally connects to them. So we went to go see her play at the Wiltern, and that connection that she has with her audience is the same thing that was happening with Nirvana in 1991. The people in the audience know every word.”

“And her music is so hard to define,” Grohl continued. “I don’t know what you call it! I try to describe her to people and I don’t know… I don’t even know what to call it. But it’s authentic. And I would call it rock n’ roll. So… I don’t care what sort of instruments you use to do it. When I look at someone like Billie Eilish, I’m like, ‘S**t man, rock n’ roll is not even close to being dead.’”
